There are several other groups doing work similar to ours - using technology to get information to convey to the blind. Their work is really interesting, but it's not what we do!
What's special about us is that we work with the vision that's left - so we display our information visually. Other groups are working on tech that will be suitable for people who have no vision remaining, so they need to look at other ways of passing on the information they get from their sensors. So, we are not:
The guys who send electrical signals through the tongue
The guy who does vibration-transmitted hand-mounted sonar
The guy who vibrates when he faces north
or the guys who echolocate.
We're sure they're cool, but we don't do this research, so we can't tell you much about it. Sorry!
